By accepting a quotation, confirming a booking or making payment, you agree to these terms and the details in your quotation or booking confirmation. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory consumer rights.
01Company details
“SKIPMAN”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean SKIPMAN Environmental Management Ltd, company number 13790526. We are registered with the Environment Agency as an Upper Tier Broker and Dealer under registration CBDU416811.
02Contract and scope
These terms apply to rubbish removal, cage van and wait-and-load collections, skip hire, grab hire, RORO hire, permits and related waste services arranged or supplied by SKIPMAN.
SKIPMAN provides direct cage van collections and may act as a broker or agent when arranging skips, grab lorries, RORO containers, permits or other services through appropriately registered and licensed partners. Your quotation or booking confirmation identifies the service ordered and forms part of the contract.
03Quotes, bookings and payment
- Quotes are based on the information, photographs, postcode, waste type, estimated volume or weight and access details you provide.
- You must tell us about all waste and any unusual, heavy, hazardous or chargeable items before booking. A revised price may apply if the information supplied is incomplete or inaccurate.
- Prices are inclusive or exclusive of VAT as stated in the quotation. Payment is normally required in full before delivery or collection. We accept debit or credit card payments over the phone, BACS bank transfer and secure payment links sent by email, text or WhatsApp. Cash is not accepted. Any credit account terms must be agreed in writing.
- A requested date or time is not guaranteed until we confirm the booking. Delivery and collection times are estimates and can be affected by traffic, site conditions, permits and operational delays.
04Cancellations, changes and statutory rights
Tell us as soon as possible if you need to cancel or change a booking. Once a permit has been ordered, a partner service committed, a vehicle dispatched or an attendance attempted, reasonable costs already incurred may be retained or charged, subject to applicable law.
If you are a consumer booking by telephone, online or away from our premises, a statutory 14-day cancellation period may apply. If you ask us to begin or complete the service during that period, you expressly request early performance and may have to pay for work already supplied. The right to cancel may end once the service has been fully performed with your express request and acknowledgement. Your statutory rights and any legal exceptions remain unaffected.
05Access, delivery and placement
- You must provide safe, lawful and unobstructed access at the agreed time. Skip lorries normally need about 3 metres of clear width, firm and level ground and safe overhead clearance.
- You are responsible for obtaining the landowner’s permission and for identifying weak surfaces, drains, cellars, cables, pipes or other concealed services.
- Skip lorries can weigh approximately 11 tonnes empty and up to 18 tonnes loaded. Boards are recommended on driveways, but they cannot guarantee that a surface will not be marked or damaged.
- The driver has the final decision on safe access and placement. We may refuse or alter a delivery or collection if the driver considers it unsafe or unlawful.
- If access is blocked, the container cannot be safely collected, or nobody is available where attendance is required, a wasted-journey charge of £120 + VAT (£144 including VAT) applies. Please ensure safe access at every delivery and collection and keep the skip level-loaded.
06Using skips and containers
- Skips must remain where the driver places them and must not be moved, pushed, lifted or used with unauthorised ramps.
- Waste must be level with the top of the container. Nothing may project above or beyond the sides. Do not light fires or burn waste in a container.
- Heavy waste such as soil, concrete, rubble and hardcore is accepted only in a suitable size, normally a 6 or 8 yard skip, unless agreed in writing. Larger 12, 14 and 16 yard skips are intended for lighter bulky waste.
- The customer must keep the container secure, use lights and markings where required and fit a suitable cover or tarpaulin when necessary.
07Cage van and wait-and-load services
Cage Van loading is the customer’s responsibility. Our team assists with loading but does not load on the customer’s behalf. All waste must be prepared on the driveway before arrival.
Cage van prices are based on the photographs and description supplied and may be adjusted if the actual load is larger, heavier, different or contains items not declared in advance. The customer must provide safe access to the waste and tell us about stairs, long carries, parking restrictions or other loading difficulties.
Where confirmed in the quotation, 30–45 minutes of loading time is included. Extra waiting time, labour, parking, additional loads or aborted attendance may be charged. Our team may refuse any item that is unsafe, hazardous, excessively heavy or outside the agreed service.
08Prohibited and restricted waste
Unless we agree a specialist service in writing, standard collections and mixed-waste containers must not contain:
- Asbestos, hazardous or clinical waste, chemicals, paint, liquids, oils or contaminated materials.
- Gas cylinders, batteries, tyres, fluorescent tubes, explosives, hot ash or burning material.
- Fridges, freezers, mattresses, sofas, armchairs or other upholstered POPs items unless declared and priced in advance.
- Plasterboard, carpet or underlay above the agreed allowance. For mixed loads, each is normally limited to 10% unless a dedicated service is booked.
POPs in upholstered furniture
POPs means Persistent Organic Pollutants—harmful chemicals that remain in the environment for a long time. Some were used as flame retardants in furniture.
In waste collection, items that may contain POPs include sofas, sofa beds, armchairs, upholstered dining chairs and footstools, particularly their foam and fabric.
In England, seating waste containing POPs must:
- Be kept separate from other waste.
- Go to an authorised facility for incineration to destroy the POPs.
- Not be sent to landfill or ordinary recycling.
This separate handling and treatment can mean additional disposal costs.
Declare plasterboard, roofing felt, artificial grass, carpets and underlay before booking. These materials are charged for haulage plus disposal per tonne, at the rates confirmed in your quotation. If not declared in advance, additional haulage and per-tonne disposal costs apply; we will explain the revised charges and provide the weight evidence where applicable.
09Overloading, excess weight and contamination
We may refuse to transport an overloaded, unsafe or incorrectly filled container and require the customer to remove material before collection. Where lawful and safe transport is possible, additional charges may apply for excess weight, sorting, specialist treatment or extra journeys.
If prohibited, hazardous or misdescribed waste is found, the load may be rejected, quarantined or reclassified. The customer is responsible for reasonable reload, return, storage, testing, specialist handling, transport and disposal costs arising from the undeclared material.
10Hire period and collection
- Standard skip hire is for up to four weeks unless a different period is confirmed in writing.
- Extensions are subject to availability and may incur additional rental, permit or suspension charges.
- You must request collection when the skip is ready and keep it safe and compliant until it is removed. Collection dates and windows remain subject to routing and operational availability.
- The container remains the property of its supplier at all times. You must not sell, alter, damage or allow another party to remove it.
11Permits, parking and highway requirements
A skip placed on a public highway normally requires a council permit and may also require a parking-bay suspension. We can advise or arrange these where available, but approval and timing are controlled by the relevant authority.
You are responsible for providing accurate placement information and complying with permit, lighting, covering and parking conditions. Permit, suspension, parking and enforcement charges caused by inaccurate instructions or customer non-compliance may be passed on to the customer.
12Waste description and duty of care
You must give an accurate description of the waste and provide any information reasonably required for a waste transfer note or consignment documentation. Waste must be kept secure and must only be transferred to authorised persons.
SKIPMAN arranges waste movements through registered carriers and authorised disposal or recovery routes. The customer’s legal duty of care is not removed by booking a collection and continues as required by law.
13Damage and liability
We will exercise reasonable care and skill. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for damage resulting from unsuitable or weak ground, concealed services, restricted access, the customer’s placement instruction, moving a container after delivery or failing to disclose a relevant site condition.
We are not liable for indirect or unforeseeable loss. Nothing in these terms excludes liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability or consumer right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
14Problems and complaints
Tell us as soon as possible if there is a problem and provide the booking details, photographs and a clear description. We will investigate with the driver or service partner and aim to provide a practical response. This process does not affect your statutory rights.
15Information, photographs and communications
We use the contact, site, waste and payment information you provide to quote, book, deliver, collect, invoice and meet legal waste obligations. Where necessary, relevant information and site photographs may be shared with the licensed carrier, supplier, council, payment provider or disposal facility involved in the service.
You are responsible for ensuring that the information and photographs you send are lawful and accurate. Operational messages may be sent by telephone, email, SMS or WhatsApp using the details supplied.
16Governing law and changes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Courts in England and Wales will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer rights. If one term is unenforceable, the remaining terms continue to apply. We may update these terms for future bookings; the version accepted when your booking is confirmed applies to that booking.
